Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add elbow macaroni and cook for 7-8 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour to create a roux, cooking for about 2 minutes until golden.
  3. Gradually add 3 cups of milk, whisking continuously for 5-7 minutes until thickened. Stir in 2 cups cheddar and 1 cup Gruyère until melted.
  4. Fold the macaroni into the cheese sauce, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top.
