Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon until evenly combined.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add maple syrup, egg, and vanilla to the creamed mixture, beating until just combined.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, being careful not to overmix the dough.
  5. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to help maintain shape and texture.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop and roll dough into 1.5-tablespoon balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are light golden and the centers remain soft.
  9. For icing, brown butter in a saucepan, then whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth.
