For the Dough
  • 16-19 oz Pizza Dough Use store-bought dough for convenience
For the Cheese Filling
  • 8 sticks Mozzarella String Cheese Alternatively, use Land O Lakes Creamy Italian Blend Cheese Cubes
For Brushing
  • ½ tbsp Milk or 1 Egg, whichever is available
  • Flaky Salt Optional
For the Garlic Herb Butter
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted Butter Melted and cooled slightly
  • ¼ cup Finely Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Parsley
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Basil
  • Salt & Pepper To taste
For Decoration
  • 1 slice Cheese of Choice For decorative football laces
For Serving
  • Marinara Sauce For dipping

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Cut the mozzarella string cheese sticks into 1-inch pieces.
  3. Take your pizza dough and lightly flour your work surface to prevent sticking, then divide the dough into 32 equal portions.
  4. Place one cheese chunk in the center of each dough rectangle, wrap the dough around the cheese, and seal.
  5. Lay the dough balls seam-side down on the baking sheet, arranging them in a football shape.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together milk or beaten egg, then brush over the tops of each roll and sprinkle with flaky salt.
  7. Bake the rolls for 18 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
  8. While baking, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter and mix in grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped basil, salt, and pepper.
  9. Once out of the oven, brush the garlic herb butter over each roll.
  10. Slice a piece of cheese into 7 thin rectangles and arrange them on top of the rolls to mimic football laces.
  11. Serve the rolls with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
