Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 18 oz Canned Tuna in oil
  • 4 tbsp Soy Sauce opt for low-sodium
  • 2 tbsp Fish Sauce can be omitted for vegetarian
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil or neutral oil
  • 1 tbsp Sugar honey or substitute works
  • 3 tbsp Gochugaru adjust to spice preference
For the Aromatics
  • 6 cloves Garlic or garlic powder
  • 1/2 large Onion or shallots for milder taste
  • 1 bundle Green Onions use chives or omit
For the Heat and Freshness
  • 3 medium Jalapeños or 1 Green Bell Pepper
  • Black Pepper optional
For the Garnish
  • Sesame Seeds optional garnish

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Finely chop 3 jalapeños or 1 green bell pepper, half a large onion, and 6 cloves of garlic. Slice 1 bundle of green onions, separating the white and green parts.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of fish sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Add 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds, 3 tablespoons of gochugaru, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and a pinch of black pepper. Stir in 3 tablespoons of water until sugar dissolves.
  3. In a large pot, add 2 cans of oil-packed tuna, followed by the prepared vegetables and the sauce. Mix well.
  4. Place the pot over medium-high heat and cover. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Serve warm over rice, topped with a fried egg and the green parts of green onions.
