- In a medium saucepan, combine whole milk, granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, and salt over medium heat. Whisk continuously until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the large egg yolks until smooth. Gradually stir in about a cup of the hot milk mixture, ensuring the egg yolks don't curdle.
- Continue cooking the pudding over medium heat, stirring constantly for an additional 2-3 minutes until the pudding has a velvety smooth texture.
- In a serving dish, start layering with vanilla wafers at the bottom, followed by half of the sliced bananas, and top with half of the pudding.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Just before serving, remove the banana pudding from the fridge and top it off with whipped cream.
