For the Salad

For the Sandwich
  • 4 pieces Hoagie Rolls Consider using crusty Italian or submarine rolls.
  • 4 slices Provolone Cheese Melts well; mozzarella can be used in a pinch.
  • 3-4 slices Deli Ham Savory flavor; turkey or chicken can be alternatives.
  • 2-3 slices Genoa Salami Classic Italian flavor; substitute with spicy capicola.
  • 2-3 slices Pepperoni Classic choice; Italian sausage is a potential alternative.

Method
 

Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the shredded iceberg lettuce, sliced red onion, and sliced pepperoncini peppers. Drizzle half of the prepared dressing over the salad, tossing gently.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise and layer inside each with provolone cheese. Bake for 3-5 minutes until golden and cheese melts.
  4. Layer the deli ham, Genoa salami, and pepperoni on the melted cheese. Toss the salad with remaining dressing, mound it on top of meats, and close the sandwich.
  5. Slice the sandwich in half and serve immediately while the bread is warm and crispy.
