  • 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth homemade is best
  • 1 head garlic minced, fresh is best
  • 1 medium onion chopped, yellow or white
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin can substitute with coriander
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro or parsley
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice fresh
For the Garnish
  • 1 cup crispy tortilla strips or croutons

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and sauté for about 5 minutes until they soften.
  3. Stir in the ground cumin and let it cook for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth while sprinkling salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Allow the soup to simmer gently for approximately 20 minutes.
  6. Just before serving, stir in the lime juice and chopped fresh cilantro.
  7. Ladle the soup into bowls and top with crispy tortilla strips.
