Step-by-Step Instructions for Orange Shortbread Cookies
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine softened unsalted butter with both powdered and granulated sugars. Beat on medium speed for about 3-5 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the zest of 2 oranges and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the creamed mixture. Blend well on low speed.
- Whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add to the wet ingredients while mixing on low speed until a dough forms.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of the dough and roll into balls. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Flatten each ball to about ½-inch thickness.
- Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes until golden around the edges but soft in the center.
- Remove from the oven and let sit on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
