Method
 

Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the brioche or challah bread into 1-inch thick pieces. Arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the prepared bread, ensuring each slice is coated. Let it soak for about 30 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
  5. After soaking, let the dish sit at room temperature for 10 minutes. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Optionally broil for 2-3 minutes for a crispy top layer. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  7. Evenly sprinkle granulated sugar on top and caramelize it using a kitchen torch or broiler until golden.
  8. Let it cool slightly, then serve warm with fresh berries, powdered sugar, and maple syrup.
