Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. Wash and chop the broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots into bite-sized pieces. Steam over boiling water for 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat and whisk in flour to create a roux.
  4. Gradually pour in warm milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Cook until thickened, then stir in cheese and seasonings.
  5. Combine steamed vegetables with cheese sauce in a mixing bowl until coated.
  6. Transfer to the baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, if desired.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbling and golden brown. Broil for an extra 2-3 minutes for crispiness.
